Accessibility
We have tried to design our website to make it as accessible as
possible whilst remaining visually interesting and easy to use.
The following settings have been added to the site to provide
better accessibility to all users.
Text Size
Use the increasing letter size buttons at the top of the
page will change the size of the text, the default setting is
small. You can also modify text using your browser. In Internet
Explorer select the 'View' menu, then the test size otion. Click on
the text size you want to view.
Please note: Changes you make will change the look and format of
some pages.
Adobe Acrobat
PDF stands for Portable Document Format. It is an established
way of publishing documents on the web while retaining their
original printed design look.
If you are having trouble reading these documents please
install 'Adobe Acrobat Reader'. This is available to download free
of charge at:
http://get.adobe.com/reader/
Images and alt tags
We have avoided using excessive graphics
within the website where possible in an effort to maximise quick
download times and access to information which cannot be read if in
image format.
Where images are used we have added 'Alt'
tags - text alternatives so that you will still know what the image
is meant to convey even if it doesn't load or if you've have chosen
to browse with the images switched off or you are using an
assistive technology like a screen reader to browse the web page
rather than view.
Translations
We do not translate the content of the website as a standard.
Our research indicates that there is a limited demand for this from
our residents. However we will consider translating or interpreting
documents on request. We will consider the demand and the cost of
such translations and advise you on what we are able to do.
This website is not speech-enabled. Some websites
allow you to down load free software which reads aloud the
text. Redbridge Homes will consider requests for audio readings
however as per translations, will consider demand and the cost in
providing this. On occassion audio versions of documents may be
provided on this site in a .wav or mp3 format.
Coding standards and conformance
This website aims to comply with World Wide Web
Consortium (W3C) standards for XHTML. W3C is the governing
authority on web development standards and practices. The site
displays correctly with current browsers, and using standard XHTML
code means that any future browsers will also display this website
correctly. We are continuously improving this website to ensure
that pages conform to the Single-A level of the W3C Web Content
Accessibility Guidelines 1.0.
The Accessibility Guidelines explain how to
make Web content accessible to people with disabilities.
Conformance to these Guidelines helps to make the Web more
accessible to users with disabilities and benefits all users.
There may be a few pages that do not conform
to all the guidelines. Whilst every effort is made to ensure the
whole site conforms, with many web contributors, this is an ongoing
process.
Plain English and Crystal Mark
The website aims to conform with guidance from Crystal Mark.
This guidance looks at the website and considers whether it is
accessible, is in plain english and follows good
practice. Areas covered by the guidance include navigation,
design, language used, content and technical compliance.
